Ross Lions – What we do
Ross Lions provide Service to the Community in a variety of ways, including organising community events and fundraisers.
A typical list of activities and events would include :
- Pancake Races – a fun community event
- Rossbeerfest – a fundraiser that showcases local produce and musicians
- Peace Poster Competition – each autumn term, students in Year 8 of John Kyrle High School take part in the Lions International competition which asks them to consider issues of peace in their art work. Ross Lions sponsor this art project and it is a continuing youth project.
- Fireworks – traditional organised display for the community
- Santa – bringing the joy of Christmas to the young and old alike
- Christmas Day – supporting the community Christmas lunch with funding and volunteers
- Charity shop – not just a way to fundraise but also an environmental project for recycling donated items and avoiding landfill!
- Spectacle collections – a major project for Lions is the recycling of spectacles and Ross Lions collect thousands of pairs a year from the collection bin in their shop
- Message in a Bottle – a simple way of making medical information known in time of emergency. Special containers are given away by Ross Lions and available free in the Lions shop.
Additional fundraising includes bucket collections held every quarter.
Environmental projects include the planting of trees and the maintenance of 2 flower boxes in the town.
