Christmas Day can be a busy time with family and friends, but some people like the company and spirit of good-will that they find by participating in the Ross on Wye Community Lunch. Held for the second time at the Larruperz Centre, many volunteers worked behind the scenes to make the day fun for all. The well-known figure of Dennis Humble was there once again linking the organisations EnviroAbility, WVS, Help the Aged, Ross Action Bus and Ross Lions with individual volunteers, cooks, drivers and helpers.
Some of those attending were there for the first time and everyone was welcomed in with a drink while they settled and chatted and made new friends. An excellent meal was prepared by the Chef, Dave, while Chris ably organised other volunteers took meals to the homes of those who were not able to make it to the Centre. The Mayor of Ross, Councillor David Ravenscroft joined the lunch with the Mayoress and, being Christmas Day , a special visit was made by Santa who gave everyone a present.
Some of the volunteers on the day said how much they enjoyed the experience, “A great afternoon, thank you” said Andrew and “Was a truly wonderful day. Look forward to volunteering next year” was the comment from Debs. Ross on Wye Lions Club sponsors this event, and coordinated other donations such as those from The Ross Phoenix Singers and J.P Products. Without the help of all these organisations and the people involved this wonderful annual event could not take place.
