‘Awesome!’ ‘Great, thank you’ just two of the comments made by people as they left the grounds of The Chase Hotel after enjoying the Annual Bonfire and Fireworks Display on Saturday November 5th. First estimates show that a record crowd of around 2,000 came to the event organised by Ross on Wye Lions Club. The weather was perfect, although a little cold but, it wasn’t long before the heat from the bonfire warmed up those who were a bit chilly. Ross Mohawk Cubs started the proceedings with their torchlight procession, after which the bonfire was lit by Lions Club members. Led by Darren on the mic, everyone joined in the countdown to the Fireworks which indicated the start of a 20 minute display of light and colour. The teenagers of Ross Youth Lions, the Leo Club, ran their own charity fundraising project and sold light-sticks and novelties. Just like the Lions Club, they will hope to have raised money that will be donated to their own choice of local charities and good causes.
Although members of the Lions Club organised the Bonfire Night event, it could not have happened without the help of many local volunteers, too many to name here. As President of Ross Lions, Fiona, said “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help to run this event for the community. Ross Lions are extremely pleased that everything went so well and that so many people gave us their support.”
