Pupils excel in Peace Poster Competition

The Art Department of John Kyrle High School has very strong links with the members of Ross on Wye Lions Club and the most lasting link has been the Peace Poster Competition held each Autumn. The Lions are an organisation for volunteers who want to help their local community and to ‘put something back’. As an International Organisation, they promote understanding between people of different countries and the topic of Peace is relevant today as always.

The Peace Poster Competition is held for pupils in Year 8 and this year was led by Art Teacher Mrs Taylor. She said “This competition gives young people the chance to express their own ideas and express their own thoughts about the world they see around them”.

This year the theme for the poster was “Share Peace” and at a special evening held at Ross Library the winners were presented with their prizes by Lion President David Ravenscroft.  He praised all the work done at JKHS with their pupils and expressed the views of all present when he described the high standard of work that is achieved by the pupils and staff of the school. He also presented a cheque for £300 to the Art Department.  In response Mr Croad, of John Kyrle, thanked the Lions for all that they do to support young people and give them opportunities to participate in the community of Ross.
