A rare presentation has been made at John Kyrle High School to Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths. This was the granting of a Melvin Jones Fellowship , the Highest Honour that can be given in the world of Lions Clubs International. The Members of Ross Lions wanted to recognise the tremendous support given to them over many years by Mr Girffiths in his support of their youth-based projects such as the Peace Poster Competition, the Young Ambassador Competition and the Ross Youth Lions (Leo) Club. Lions District Governor Keith Wilding was present at the ceremony and said “Ross on Wye Lions commend Nigel Griffiths for his leadership, his positivity and his contribution to the growth of young citizens for the 21st century. “
Lions Clubs are nearing their 100 year Anniversary and want to mark this with Centenary Projects worldwide. In Ross on Wye the Lions will be thinking of ways to celebrate this milestone and this Fellowship Presentation fits in with their theme of Dignity for Children. The Fellowship is for those who have demonstrated outstanding Humanitarian responses. In the wider context, the outreach to the Community from JKHS in the town, the country and the world is seen as a shining example to others.
