Lions Commemoration at the Bandstand

Ross on Wye Lions have erected a plaque at the Bandstand to commemorate the work of their former member, Bernard Fowkes, in ensuring that this project was completed. The small ceremony to unveil the plaque was attended by members of Bernard’s family and friends and led by members of Ross-on-Wye Lions Club.

Lion Keith Wilding spoke of Bernard’s determination to see the Bandstand finished. Despite many obstacles, Bernard led the Lions in raising funds and the “Outdoor Pursuits Building” was handed over to the Town in 2005.
Bernard’s widow, Jo, spoke of her pride in Bernard’s achievements and her pleasure at having been able to tell him of the plan for this memorial before he passed away, nearly one year ago.

President Sam invited Jo to unveil the plaque and it will remain there as thanks for his efforts, made to provide a quality building of lasting benefit to the whole community.
