Ross Lions celebrated 120 years of Service from three of their members at their recent Handover Lunch. As his last important presentation before handing over his Chain of Office, President Sam Phillips presented chevrons for 40 years of Service to Lions Mel Middlecote, Cyril Powell and Jim Swinson. Mel and Cyril were amongst the earliest members of the club, which was chartered in 1971, and are life members. They have each held Officer roles and continue to be relied upon for the knowledge and experience they bring to the club. Jim had experience of clubs in other towns of the UK before joining Ross Lions and is also as active as ever with projects in the Community.
Lion Mel echoes the thoughts of many when he says “I didn’t join Lions to be given awards” but, as P.P. Sam said, this occasion deserves to be celebrated and the Club are proud of the selfless way these Lions have maintained their enjoyment of Club membership and the tradition of Service.
